Hobbies
Since I am eternally lacking in topics for me to write about, I figured I could start blogging about my newest hobby. It occurs to me, however, that I like to bounce between hobbies.
The first thing I remember actually calling a hobby was baseball (and eventually basketball) card collecting. I should have been able to tell just how much of a dork I was going to be at that point. I spent multiple weekends combing through my collection, re-factoring, categorizing, cataloging, and pricing my collection. I even remember Dad and I poking around in Grandma’s attic looking for his cards. What a disappointment we both suffered when we realized that they were no where to be found.
I’ve never considered sports to be a hobby, but I spent most of my grade school and high school years playing baseball, basketball, football (OK, only one year), and swimming. I guess the Drama stuff I did in high school could have been considered a hobby, but it’s not like it really blossomed into a Hollywood career for me.
I turned one of my hobbies, computers, into a full-time job. Funny enough, it’s probably the only one I still keep up with at all. There’s a little bit of a passion there, just because I continually find something else to do.
I’ve tried taking up fish-keeping. That ended in a couple failures. The most expensive was when I was keeping salt-water fish. I’d like to blame that on the fact that I didn’t have enough room, money, patience for the setup I wanted. We’ll just say that it’s probably because I got bored because of those reasons.
So, recently, it’s been homebrewing beer. I’m not going to delve much further into detail in this post, but I firmly believe that this one is pretty interesting. I’ve made 3 batches since February. It’s also geeky enough that I get to do all sorts of measurements and calculations, that it likens it to playing with computers. It’s also a nice topic to blog about, apparently. My Netvibes page is full of beer blogs at this point. Maybe I’ve finally found something fun.
